Australia’s Automotive Industry Repair professionals gathered in Sydney last week to map the industry’s future. One of the key speakers was David McCarthy, senior manager of public relations, product and corporate communications at Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific.
In his speech, Mr McCarthy articulated Mercedes-Benz’s “passion” about the use of genuine parts, with safety as the prime motivation.
“We know that only genuine parts will maintain the integrity and safety of our vehicles,” he told the repairers.
“Every single part that we fit to our vehicles in manufacture is exhaustively tested to destruction and they are integral to our vehicles having the highest possible [passenger] safety ratings,” he said.
“We expect, as do our customers, that once their vehicle is repaired it will be as safe after repair as it was before.
“Non-genuine parts are not subject to the same [factory] testing, regulatory or certification regime. It’s as simple as that . . .”
